With Gracie’s birthday tomorrow I’ve been thinking back to what things were like before her. Honestly I have NO idea what we did with all our time (or $!) before her. Then I was thinking about what it was like going to the hospital, and those are some fun memories. Memories I never really got to share… so I thought I would… now! On the eve of her 2nd birthday!
I really thought Monday, October 1st was going to be our little girls birthday. I was thinking how fun it was going to be to have a October birthday for her. So Monday at the hospital came and time just seemed to stand still…. it was long, long, long waiting and waiting. I was hooked up at 7am and the waiting began. Luckily I had great visitors. Kelly was there of coarse, my mom, and her friends Glenna and Marsha came too. My dad came and for a bit too because EVERYONE thought I would finally have this baby, but EVERYONE was wrong.
Here I am. Don’t I look SO thrilled?? Talk about uncomfortable with monitors and wires everywhere. I was constantly getting checked and was never more than a 1. Yes, I said that, a 1. I was being induced through drugs but nothing was working. Luckily I wasn’t in any pain! We had waiting and waiting and more waiting, checking, checking, and more checking. At 5:00 my sweet Dr. came and and told me the news. I had 2 choices. She could break my water and labor would start, or we could wait 1 more day and try again the next day getting more of the drugs. She advised waiting if I wasn’t just totally thinking I was going to die. Since I wasn’t feeling anything, we decided to wait some more. They unhooked me, I was able to get up and actually eat. My request? Mexican food!
As much as I wanted that baby out, I could wait a little more… We were all joking about how stubborn she was being and that she was probably going to be a real stinker! Little did we know what was going on inside me…
Oh, and Kelly? He mostly did this for 2 days…
Poor thing, he was stressed to the max with school and right in the middle of his masters… the joys of sleeping before he was a Daddy!
Just in case you were wondering or forgot; on Tuesday, October 2nd I had 7 more hours of waiting and waiting- still nothing. My Dr. decided Grace was not going to come out on her own and I had to do a C-section. They got me all unhooked and ready at 3:00. At 3:34 she was brought into this world with forceps (the only time my dr. has ever had to use them during a c-section). It turns out she had a knot in her cord so she really was our Amazing Grace for not coming on her own. It still gives me chills to think about that… More tomorrow!!

I'm eternally thankful that our Gracie girl knew she should wait and let the Dr. come in and get her. She was soooo worth the wait!!! GG
