Movin’ On Up

I actually wrote this post about 2 weeks ago but have never gotten around to posting it!

For awhile now I had planned on moving Gracie into her big girl bed over our Christmas break. I’m big into planning things out and I wanted her to have plenty of time to transition into her new bed and us to have time off (a.k.a: not lose too much sleep!) to get used to it all. Back in Sept. my parents rearranged some things at their house and took down their crib at their house so Gracie had been sleeping in a day bed. She had no problems at all. So I decided, why not go ahead and move her right now? We made the big switcharoo on a Saturday so here she is sleeping the last time (sniff, sniff) in her crib.

See the corner she’s all smooshed in below? That’s where she always is/was sleeping!

Her crib actually converts into a full size bed once you buy the mattress and size rails. I just didn’t think she was quite ready for that big of a bed yet. We went ahead and moved her into the day bed we’ve had in our office. It was my Mimi’s and I’ve had it since I graduated from college. It will be perfect for her because we can get a pop out trundle bed later on for when she has friends sleep over :) As soon as she crashed Friday night Kelly and I started taking the day bed apart in the office and got things ready for the next day. (My husband wanted all of this *work* done before the big footfall games on tv!)

Saturday morning as soon as she woke up (around 6:30) we started moving!

Her crib was easy to take apart and move out.

Then we got the frame of the day bed moved in. That thing is heavy!

Look at the mess we made in the loft area! Here is Kelly showing Gracie some of his old toys that he just knows are going to be worth $$ some day!!

As soon as we put the mattress down and I put the sheets on the bed, we hauled off to the pumpkin patch, ate lunch, and then brought her back for her 1st nap in her new bed. How’d she do?

AWESOME!!

She slept 2 and 1/2 hours!!

I did have my doubts at first (Kelly was doubting me) because Gracie has always been such a good sleeper. We were taking a big chance that she’d turn into a bad sleeper or start getting out of bed. We do use this ugly lovely bed guard so she can’t roll out. We also switched her to the other end of the bed too, she did herself… It has just been the perfect transition. The only hard thing is that when she used to cry a little I always knew in her crib she was okay, now in her bed I feel like I have to go in there to get her situated. She does loose her pacie more and her lambie more :( Other than that, it’s been great. We haven’t lost too much sleep!!

I searched and searched for cute bedding to go with her already adorable room. I am not ready to re-do her room completely yet from the black and white/pink so I’m still on the hunt for cute bedding. For now I got really cute princess sheets from Target that have hearts and ballerina slippers and crowns on it. Plus a pink crown blanket. Eventually I’ll rearrange her furniture and get things together but for now it’s perfect for her and I’m so happy!!

And for those of you who have been noticing that we now have a lot of empty/un-used “baby” stuff -don’t even think about it. We are not planning on any new little Gaugers any time soon! We like our little family they way it is right now :)

Our next big task: saying bye-bye to Gracie’s assie (pacie!) She only has it at naps/bedtime but it’s time for it to go. I think we will wait for Christmas break for that one :)

Update: Just last weekend I found a really cute bedspread for her. I haven’t even put it on her bed yet but when I do I’ll post the new pictures!
