Block Captain

I have taken on a leadership role on my street (Ha!) this week and it is NOT easy. Last week I saw on the news about this neat website that was started for neighborhoods. It's called www.nextdoor.com. Basically once a neighborhood or street is set up, it's a private website for neighbors to share advice or stay in touch, and post things about safety. I thought it was really cool so I set out to see if our street/neighborhood had one. Turns out I was the first! So, it's now my job to get at least 10 people in the next few days otherwise our site goes inactive. On the website there is a way to make fliers and email. But we definitely don't know any neighbor's emails! You can also send out 10 post cards for free. It was very easy to do online and now I've printed some fliers through the site. Today Gracie helped me pass them out as she rode her bike. The only one we have so far is our sweet neighbor next door. What's with neighbors these days??? I was really thinking/hoping that our new neighborhood would be active but that's not the case. Our sweet neighbor said she's lived here 9 YEARS and the ONLY people she's met is her neighbor on the other side. 9 years! She said everyone is nice but keeps to themselves. This is what I"m trying to change. There are so many people at the school and park so I'm hoping to get things started and maybe, just maybe, we can have a block party. Wish me luck getting 8 more people to sign up in 7 days!!! So just call me Block Captain from now on!!!

How did it go? It is really hard to get people organized like that. I hope you reached your goal!
