Memories…

A few weeks ago I attended an 18 hour training on how to teach students with dyslexia. On the first day we spent the first hour going around the room and we had to stand up, say our name, where we were from, where we taught, and why we were there. (Horrors, I hate ice-breakers like this. I didn’t listen to what anyone said because I was so concentrated on what I was going to say!) I get through my synopopsis just fine though and a few people away I see this lady go through her whole story. She said she’d been a teacher for over 35 years, 25 of those years teaching first grade. I couldn’t place it at first but I knew her from somewhere. Then, it hit me. She was my first grade teacher. My sweet first grade teacher at Saigling Elementary in Plano. I will never forget her because she got married the summer after 1st grade and we were all invited to her wedding. It was my very first wedding and I just thought that was so neat! So while we were on a break I bravely went over to her. She said she remembered me and that she had a picture from her wedding and she’d bring the next day. So here it is: Can you find me?????

Sorry for the poor quality but I had to scan it and hey, it was like 1985, I think! I was able to remember some names for my teacher too and thanks to facebook, I have reconnected with some of these people too! Okay, did you find me? If not here is a clue:

Ok, I know I’m sorta hidden behind another girl but you can still see me! Now at my training, my teacher was just showing me and some of the other teachers got word about what was going on. They made the trainer but this picture on the elmo projector so they could “find” me. I know this probably sounds like no big deal, but I totally am one that likes to blend into a crowd, I will participate and speak up but I don’t like attention like that. I was seriously wanting to crawl under the table! I could feel my face turning beat red. Well they found me right away and one lady said “Aww, you look exactly the same” Seriously, do you want people telling you you look just like you did when you were 6???? But it was fun reconnecting with one of my favorite teachers. I was thinking to myself though “Please God, do NOT let me be teaching for 30 years!” Ha!!

How fun that you were able to reconnect with your 1st grade teacher! If you and Gracie get bored while Kelly is out of town, give us a ring :)

You are so funny! Just so you know, I found you in the picture without any assistance! I know Shami from anywhere!
You crack me up.
