Potty Training 101

Since we only had 2 days left of our winter break (boo!) I decided to try to officially potty train our little one to see if she was ready to go all out! She’s been going off and on since September really but nothing consistent. I was the worst about it though. Working all day long when I came home I had ‘chores’ to do (cook dinner, feed her, bath, bed…) so the last thing on my mind was getting her to use the potty! She’d been doing really well at her sitter’s house- then we went to Nebraska. Something about trying to get her to use the awful potties at gas stations was just not fun. She did not mention going to the potty at all in Nebraska so I didn’t push it.

So Friday, we made the start. GG and Pop kept her over New Years so we could go out alone. I picked her up before lunch on Friday and as soon as we got home I took her diaper off and put on big girl panties! She kept saying “no diaper?” I then resorted to making her go to the potty EVERY 30 minutes- no matter what. I know it sounds weird, but that’s what I did with Jack when he was a puppy and hey- he NEVER EVER has accidents!! She did super on Friday. One little tee-tee accident but Kelly and I were upstairs sorting laundry not paying attention. For naps and night time we put her in pull-ups to be on the safe side. She went right before bed and slept great all night. As soon as I heard her making some sounds Sat. morning I got her and put her on the potty and we had success! Then I did something so great on Saturday. I recommend it to all my friends- I left Gracie with her Daddy ALL day while I went shopping with GG! Ha! It worked like a charm. We had some serious talks before I left (me and Kelly!) so he’d know what to do and she did great. No accidents! They even went to the park and played. And now today, Sunday she’s still doing great. Most of the time I ask her to go potty and she at least tries. She even went poopie today! (Yea!) Now the hard part.. we’re back at work tomorrow and I have to depend on other people to keep this up. This is just a work in progress though- I know we’ll still have to work on it every day and I need to do my part too. I’m just glad she’s getting used to the potty at least likes going (she especially loves getting her M&M reward!) It’s so cute how excited she gets though. She’ll get this cute little smile and then screams “I went tee-tee on the potty!” and claps. One proud girl and we are pretty proud of her too :)

Sorry for the lack of pictures but potty training is VERY time consuming :)
