Dallas Zoo

We took Gracie to the Dallas Zoo for the first time ever last week. Can you believe I had never taken her? I am glad I waited though. She was the perfect age and really loved it. We had talked about it for a few days and she would say “Animals? I go see animals?” Thursday morning when she woke up at 6:15 in the morning she said “Animals? We go?” She was beyond excited!! We thought about taking the DART train there but I found out it would take 70 minutes because of stops so we drove ourselves. When we first go there she say the carousel and said “Horsies, I wanna ride.” I was like “Really? We come all this way and you want to ride a horse? We can do that at home!” We kept her going and found an elephant water fountain that she really liked.

It was a pretty chilly morning so we were prepared. I was so glad we got there early!!

Our first stop was Africa. We saw some penguins and then headed over to monkey’s. The orangutans were so cute cleaning each other off right in front of us!

She really liked watching them.

I thought this was funny. It looks like he’s chasing her. She Did NOT want to stand next to it!

We saw lots of birds (boring!), and tried to see the gorilla’s but they were sleepy and wouldn’t move much so we didn’t stay long.

She loved watching the Galapagos Tortoises. They were funny!

Next we found the elephants. They were so fun to watch. One was eating a box and Gracie thought that was so funny.

The giraffe’s were cute too!

I don’t know where my daughter came from because do you want to know what she wanted to see more than anything? Snakes. Yes, snakes! The thing I totally cannot stand and am so scared to death of she wanted to see. She kept saying “where the snakes?” Finally we found the snake building and yuck-o to me but she loved it! One funny thing she kept saying when we’d see animals was “How day’ get out?” She really couldn’t imagine that this was their home!

We stopped and had a little snack at the food court. Gracie’s food of choice? Ice. This girl can’t get enough. Give her some ice in a cup and she is good to go!

After her snack of ice she was ready for more.

We saw lots more animals and then went to the Children’s Zoo

She loved this. They had pigs, a giant fish tank, a horse to ride, sheep, and more!

They had this water area where all the kids were running around shoe-less having the best time. Kelly told her no but I said yes! She really wanted to but said the water was too cold.

Our last stop was the train ride around the zoo. She was really excited for this. We had to wait and wait (waiting is VERY hard for a 2 year old!) but finally it was our turn.

We saw lots of more fun animals. After the train ride, we were all exhausted and ready to go home.

We had a little unfortunate incident coming home. I was in the back with her because I knew she was so tired but I wanted her to nap at home (so I could too!) and not in the car. I was reading a book to her when she coughed a little bit then she threw up. And then again. It was the must disgusting thing. My little Gracie has never thrown up before. I don’t know if she got car sick (it’s not hard with daddy’s driving) or it was just a cough gone bad? She was really upset and kept saying “I made a mess.” Car seat makers did not think about kids getting sick in the car when they made them. Let’s just say her car seat will NEVER be the same. I was glad I was in back with her but just felt so yucky. Thank goodness we were almost home. Not a fun way to end our fun zoo day!

Gracie did have a really fun time. She still says “I saw animals and rode a train!”

Yea for Gauger Family Fun Day!
