Cake Balls!

A few weeks ago we had a little get together at school and everyone was supposed to bring an appetizer or dessert. I decided to bring the famous cake balls because they are so delicious and easy to serve. I’ve seen cake balls on so many blogs lately. It’s a fun little treat at showers or parties instead of a big cake. Here is what I used:

It’s very easy to make but very time consuming!! I forgot to add the cake box in the picture! You can make any kind of cake and use any icing. The icing is just to moisten the cake. Red velvet cake and white chocolate bark is so yummy too!

So you what you do is make your favorite cake as directed on the box. See, simple! I was lucky and had  sweet little helper!

She will help you too for a small fee. Warning: She does NOT like to get her hands dirty:

So back to the cake. Make as directed and let cool for at least 30 minutes.

Once cool to the touch, dump the ENTIRE cake into a bowl. Use a spoon or fork to crumble it up. (Melt container of icing in microwave for 15 sec. to soften)  Pour all of icing into bowl with cake.

I know it seems weird, but just do it! It should look something like this:

Now this is the way messy part. Using your hands, take a small amount and roll in the size of a golf ball in your hands. Don’t worry if the shape isn’t perfect. Put the balls on cookie sheets. Continue doing this until all the cake as been used.  Notice lambie, he was ‘helping’ too!

Now this is important: Place cookie sheets in the freezer for at least 30 minutes so balls will harden.

This is what Gracie did while we waited:

After about 25 or so minutes start melting your chocolate bark as followed on the back of bark package. When it’s melted and ready add a little bit of veg. oil. (Makes it stay melted better)   Now one at a time start dipping balls in chocolate bark so they are entirely covered. The chocolate hardens fast so keep melting it as needed. I didn’t get a picture of this because I didn’t have time. Too much was going on! It should look like this when done. Notice the little hand on one. She couldn’t resist!!

Now for an added feature you can add a different kind of chocolate to make it pretty and decorated. I used white for the decorations.. Refrigerate until ready to serve

I put each one in a little cupcake liner and it was perfect!

There you have it, Yummy Cake Balls. They were a hit!!
