Open Wide…

I took Gracie for her very first visit to the dentist. I know she was really supposed to go when she turned 2 but I just never got around to doing it. I guess I was putting it off too because I was thinking it was going to be a miserable experience. Well, she totally surprise me, (again). I had been talking up this visit for weeks. We even had  a DVD, The Berenstain Bears Go to the Dentist. She loved this DVD watched it over and over from our Nebraska-Galveston car trips. So I guess that totally prepared her :)

The office was so pretty. They had all these pretty murals on the walls and even video games to play while you waited. IMG_0576

We only had to wait around 5 minutes (nice) and guess what, she did GREAT! I really wasn’t sure what they’d do today, but they brushed and flossed her teeth. They had a movie playing on the ceiling and more pretty murals in the back. They said she had all her baby teeth until the 6 year molars. I was really surprised. I knew she had a lot of teeth but wasn’t sure she already had her 4 yr molars!! I sat in the chair and sorta held her back and she laid her head in the hygienists lap so she could brush her teeth. She opened her mouth good and even let her floss her!! She thought she looked great and said her teeth looked really good. Gracie has always had gaps between her teeth (especially the front 2) and she said that is perfect because it gives her big teeth room to come in. So that’s good. After brushing/flossing the dentist came by to count her teeth. He said her teeth looked good too :) She doesn’t need to go back for 6 mths and then she’ll get x-rays and more of a bigger cleaning.

She got to pick out a little toy, sticker and got a balloon! She was in heaven.

I was loving it too until I got told the bill, $70. Yes, $70 for them to brush her teeth. I am so glad I have insurance. Her dental bill was more than mine. WTH? I can’t imagine what it will be when she has xrays and a exam. Owell. I actually had to drag her out of the office. She wanted to stay and play some more. Dental offices sure have changed for kids from when I was little :)

What a super cute dentist office! They show movies on the ceiling?? Lydia would love that! I'll have to get the name of the Dentist and the office and see if they are In Network. It seems crazy though that it was $70 WITH insurance!? My copay for a teeth cleaning is $5! But it sounds like the place was totally worth it - a great place to take your big girl. How amazing that she has her 4 year molars!
