Kelly and I go through a lot of learning lessons as parents and this weekend was one of them. It was my idea so I guess it’s all my fault but he went along with it too. This weekend was McKinney’s Egg-stravaganza. It is put on every year by the city and this year was supposed to be bigger than ever with Radio Disney, petting zoo, train rides, and the big egg hunt. Here we are before we left
I should have known something was bad when we were turning off to try and enter the place it was bumper to bumper. People EVERYWHERE. People were actually parking across the highway and walking underneath. We thought they were crazy until we saw the madness.
30 minutes later we parked and started surveying the area. We only had about 15 minutes until the 3 and under egg hunt. Look at all those eggs!
I wondered why there weren’t any people at this part, we were at the wrong section. The 3 and under was at the total opposite end. That’s where all the people were.
Walking with Daddy
This was supposed to be the 3 and under hunt. Well, several dump people (parents) were allowing their older kids (older than 10) get eggs too. Before it started there was nearly a fight next to me because a sweet lady was trying to tell these dumb parents that that wasn’t fair. Dumb parents started yelling back and getting all mad. Kelly was with Gracie at the petting zoo. I called him and told him we had issues where I was and he needed to get back right then!
So we do a count down and finally they let us go and it was like mass chaos. Adults were running out trying to get their kids the all the eggs. Have you seen the videos of people running into stores the day after Thanksgiving to get the best deals? Well, imagine that with more kids screaming mixed in. Poor Gracie and I were nearly trampled over with all the people. I got so mad and was frustrated and all the eggs were gone in like 15 seconds ( no lie) and there were 1,000’s to begin with. I only managed to ‘help’ Gracie get 3 eggs.
“You made me do this for 3 stinkin’ eggs?”
We survey the eggs, 2 had stickers and the 3rd said we won a gift basket on the stage. So, not a total loss. They only had 10 gift baskets for the whole day and we got 1 of them. I wanted to shove the basket in the dumb parents face and say “Ha, look what we got and we didn’t push and shove” but I didn’t!
She really, really wanted in the bounce house but I wouldn’t let her. I settled for the slide instead.
I don’t think Gracie even attempted to crack a smile until we got home. (I had told her we were going to a park so I think she was a little bit ticked off!)
So, lesson learned. I put our own eggs out next year so we can have our own fun and not have to worry about getting pushed for some eggs!

I thought John was crazy when he didn't want us to go to our church hunt, the neighborhood hunt, or a friend's giant hunt, but after reading this, I think he is a smart, smart man! I'm sorry people are so rude!! I hope that gift basket had tons of good stuff in it!
(lol! Your word verification is 'prize'! How ironic!!)
Good effort, Mommy and Daddy!
I hate any event that is open to the general public for this very reason. But score on the gift basket!
